Cube Piano, crafted by French artist Cyril Lancelin for HKRI Taikoo Hui, was a massive, captivating installation that brought together music, art, and community in one dynamic experience. Inspired by Luke Jerram’s “Play Me; I Am Yours,” the piece reimagined the idea of a public piano into a full-blown sculptural playground, where anyone—amateur or virtuoso—could step inside and let creativity take over.
The design fused striking black-and-white stripes symbolizing piano keys with a rhythm of blue and purple geometric forms rising like musical notes into the sky. This inflatable “architecture of sound” became a window to the city—a space that felt both open and intimate, inviting everyone to play, perform, and connect. Inside, strangers turned into performers, and spontaneous music filled the air, blurring the line between audience and artist.
More than an artwork, Cube Piano was a portal into imagination. Its optical patterns and soft curves drew guests through a maze of light and texture, while melodies echoed and shifted with every touch. By night, the installation glowed in hypnotic color, transforming into a luminous hub of rhythm and emotion.
Cube Piano wasn’t just about sound—it was about human connection, about pausing time to celebrate the joy of creation. A living, breathing art piece where art, play, and harmony met in one memorable moment.
