Dubai Mall
A Mall, Furnished with Art. Art doing daily work, in the spaces people actually move through.

BackEmaar's brief was scale and consistency: a body of work spread across one of the largest malls in the Emirates, varied enough to hold attention at every turn, coherent enough to read as one hand. The pieces had to live in a commercial, leisure, and tourist space at once, in daily use, under a glass roof and full sun.
We treated the building as the site, not any single spot in it. The program runs in themes — flight, water, season — carried across the central domes and concourses. The works combine suspended and standing forms: flocks of birds and fish in motion overhead, dense fields of small elements reading as color from a distance and as craft up close. Each was fabricated to hang or stand safely in a public building open every day.
The mall reads differently for it. Where a glass dome was once just a ceiling, a flight of forms now moves across it. Each turn of the concourse offers something to look up at, photograph, return to. The art does not interrupt the commercial space — it gives people a reason to stay inside it longer.
