Cube Piano
Cube Piano, designed by French artist Cyril Lancelin for HKRI Taikoo Hui, is a monumental and immersive artwork that reimagines the relationship between music, art, and community. Inspired by Luke Jerram’s concept *“Play Me; I Am Yours,”* this vibrant installation features a piano integrated into a striking inflatable structure, inviting musicians of all levels—beginners and experts alike—to step into a world of creative expression.
The design, with black and white stripes symbolizing piano keys, rises amidst a sea of blue and purple squares that evoke musical notes soaring skyward. This textured, open-air “building” acts as both a window to the city and a newly imagined performance space. Inside this short-lived auditorium, anyone can become a performer—whether playing solo, in pairs, or even without sheet music—transforming the anonymous into the celebrated.
Cube Piano offers more than a space to play music; it’s a portal into an imaginative world. Optical illusions and intricate textures guide visitors through curves and openings bathed in playful light. Music winds through the installation, resonating with the rhythm of life, as visitors are encouraged to play, sing, dance, or clap.
As day turns to night, the ephemeral musical palace comes alive with glowing hues, transforming the space into a beacon of creativity and artistic exchange.
Cube Piano suspends time, inspires connection, and engraves joyful memories—a harmonious celebration of sound, texture, and imagination.
